Holocaust Remembrance Day

Today is Holocaust Remembrance Day.  I know many of you have read Anne Frank’s Diary of a Young Girl, but are there other books about the Holocaust, fiction or nonfiction, that you’ve read and recommend that others try?
I found Bearing Witness very moving.

Celebrate National Library Week with Kekla Magoon

kekla And we’re celebrating with some special events.   First off, we’re welcoming author Kekla Magoon (who grew up in Fort Wayne) on Wednesday, April 15th.

At 10:00 AM, Kekla will present “The Rock and The River: the Beginning and End of the Civil Rights Movement” in the Main Library’s Theater.  Following her presentation, she will answer your questions and be available to sign copies of her book.  (Mitchell’s will have copies of The Rock and The River available for sale at the event.) At 2:00 and 4:00, Kekla will facilitate creative writing workshops.   Space is limited, so call 421-1255 to sign up.

The Rock and The River was featured in yesterday’s New York Times Children’s Bookshelf in addition to receiving positive reviews from the library world. Congratulations, Kekla!
