July 1, 2008

This took me a long time, mainly because I was dreading the editing. But this evening I checked out the facilities at http://www.jumpcut.com/ and here is the result … finally!

You two are so right. That book is a classic that deserved a more faithful movie!

That was an amazing video. I finally saw the movie, and I totally agree with you. I wish they had followed the book.

Great movie, although your rant is somewhat lacking in the angry, foaming-at-the-mouth ranty-ness that I was expecting.

[...] Ranting is good for the soul! Posted on July 4, 2008 by bonnielibrarian Two posts in one day… it’s like Christmas!  Okay, not really.  Librarians love to talk to each other and teen librarians love to talk about their teens… so through the librarian grapevine, I heard about this video rant about the book Blood and Chocolate by Annette Curtis Klause vs. the movie.  I thought you might get a kick out of the comparisons!  Check out the video rant! You two are so right about that movie! I’m a teen librarian and II love this book, which deals with all kinds of complicated issues about becoming a woman, and coming to terms with strength and sexuality. None of this came through in the movie, which I guess was just trying to be a shockfest but didn’t even succeed at that. The plot didn’t seem to have anything to do with the book (why set it in Romania?), and what was up with making Gabriel an older bad guy? Such a shame – I at least hope Annette Curtis Klause got some residuals out of it.
