The Deadline for Summer Applications is April 1st
March 27, 2008
This is not an early April Fools joke, either! If you are at least 16 years of age and want to apply for a summer job at Allen County Public Library, the last day to submit your application is Tuesday, April 1st. If any of this applies to you, click ”more” to keep reading….
The mandatory skills test must also be completed by the deadline, so if you are dropping off an application, you need to plan to stick around long enough to complete the test. There is a study guide for the skills test here.
The Human Resources office at Main Library is closed on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. It’s open Monday and Tuesday from 9:00-5:00 PM. (This coming Monday and Tuesday, it will be swamped.) You may also submit an application and take a skills test at any ACPL branch. Branches are usually crazy-busy as well, so you may need to wait awhile before a staff member has time to adminster the skills test for you. So, please do plan to arrive well before closing time!
Most of you know this, but here’s a reminder. Write neatly, be very careful with your spelling, and fill out everything on the application completely.
Note to those who are planning to apply for Team Read: the application for Team Read requires two reference letters from adults who are not family members but know you well. So, if you are going to do that application last-minute, be sure to bring the letters with you to attach to the application, because the letters are also due by April 1st.
If you don’t end up with a cool library job, please do not take it personally or feel dismayed. You may not know this, but the library only has a limited number of positions available and receives many, many, many applications from qualified applicants.

I already got my applications in.
I know some qualified people who didn’t get jobs last year.
And Mari, I remembered to use block letters to make it easier to read, because my normal handwriting is terrible.
